Understanding “Outside In”
The idea of “Outside In” is really about how we get inspired to make art. It’s not just the things we see, like images, that get us going. It’s also the feelings and emotions that we can’t always put into words that play a big part in making something special.
Capturing What Matters
When we take all the things we experience from the world—like what we see, hear, and remember—and mix them with what we feel inside, that’s when our art really starts to shine. Combining these helps us make something that’s not just new, but also really touches people.
Just copying something exactly as it looks can be really skilled work, but it’s not quite what we’re aiming for in our art. We want to put a piece of ourselves into our work—our personal touch—that makes it stand out as ours.
We get ideas from the world around us and the feelings and thoughts that don’t show on the surface. Our goal is to put these together in our art. It’s not about making an exact copy, but rather capturing the true feeling or essence of these ideas. This way, our art isn’t just nice to look at; it also has real emotion and meaning behind it.
At the heart of it all, the “Outside In” way of making art is what makes our work special. We use what’s real and what’s felt, the obvious and the hidden, to create art that shows the world not only as we see it but also as we experience it emotionally. This gives people looking at our art a chance to see things in a different way and feel a deeper connection.”
COMING & GOING
We are thrilled and honoured once again to partner with and display our art in the Comox Valley Airport.
We consider it a personal welcome to those visiting Vancouver Island and a comforting reminder of home to those jetting off on their adventures. Thank you to the Comox Valley Airport for this opportunity.
